Copper Components for BOF Converters

Copper Components for BOF Converters

Custom copper components for basic oxygen furnace converter blowing and cooling positions, matched to lance geometry, water circuits, interfaces, materials, and inspection.

Application Scope

Winworth manufactures drawing-based copper components for basic oxygen furnace (BOF), also called LD converter, blowing and cooling positions. Typical inquiries include oxygen-lance tips or heads, multi-hole nozzles, cooling jackets, and other copper replacement parts whose geometry and water circuits are defined by the installed converter system.

This page concerns steelmaking converters. Non-ferrous converters, furnace burners, EAF injection equipment, and complete lance assemblies may use different terminology and design rules and must be identified separately in the inquiry.

Blowing Geometry and Cooling Interfaces

Provide lance and converter references, tip or head drawing, nozzle count and arrangement, bore and exit geometry, centerlines and angles, copper-body profile, lance-tube interface, joining details, insertion and withdrawal clearances, and the buyer-defined operating position. No generic nozzle layout is assigned from the furnace name alone.

Cooling documentation should define concentric or other water paths, supply and return chambers, partitions, inlet and outlet interfaces, joints, wall sections, closures, flow direction, and the required pressure or leakage test. Oxygen service cleanliness, joining procedures, and acceptance criteria must be stated when applicable.

Material, Manufacturing, and Inspection

Copper grade, condition, blank route, casting, forging, machining, drilling, joining, welding or brazing, cleaning, and surface requirements follow the approved specification. No fixed oxygen flow, jet velocity, lance height, heat exposure, pressure, or service life is assumed.

Inspection may include material verification, nozzle and body dimensions, bore and angle checks, concentricity, joint examination, specified NDT, cooling-passage mapping, pressure or leakage testing, cleanliness, and fit against supplied lance data. The buyer's procedure controls test medium, pressure, duration, and acceptance.

RFQ Information
