Application Scope and Terminology
Winworth manufactures drawing-based water-cooled copper components for electroslag remelting (ESR) furnaces. The solidification component surrounding the slag and forming ingot may be called a crucible, mold, or crystallizer in different equipment documents. This application page accepts those search terms while the buyer's drawing controls the order name.
In ESR, a consumable electrode is remelted through a heated slag pool and the metal solidifies in a water-cooled copper mold. Standard ESR operation is not automatically a vacuum process; protective-atmosphere, pressure, vacuum, stationary-mold, or withdrawal variants must be stated by the buyer.
Electrode, Slag Zone, Ingot, and Base Interfaces
Provide furnace and electrode arrangement, round, square, rectangular, slab, hollow, or other ingot section, cavity and taper, active and overall length, slag-zone and hot-top regions, baseplate and starter interface, stationary or withdrawal arrangement, outer jacket, flange and support geometry, alignment datums, seals, chamber or enclosure interfaces when present, removal, lifting, and maintenance access.
The cooling drawing should identify supply and return paths, annular, drilled, machined, cast, or fabricated channel construction, partitions, connections, pipes, plugs, closures and joints, flow direction, circuit separation, wall sections, monitored points, and the buyer's test procedure.
Material, Manufacturing, and Inspection
Copper grade and condition, blank route, machining, drilling, forming, welding or joining, outer-jacket construction, cleaning, and surface requirements follow the approved drawing. Crucible, mold, and crystallizer are not permission to substitute materials, geometry, or construction between different ESR furnace designs.
Inspection may include material records, cavity, taper and slag-zone dimensions, wall, flange and base geometry, alignment, cooling-passage mapping, joints and closures, specified NDT, pressure or leakage testing, circuit separation, cleanliness, and assembly fit. No electrical current, melt rate, slag chemistry, ingot quality, furnace atmosphere, pressure, or service life is inferred from the copper component.

Provide the ESR furnace, electrode and ingot drawings, process and atmosphere variant, exact supply boundary, cavity, slag zone, base and starter interfaces, copper and jacket specifications, cooling map and connections, tolerances, cleanliness, NDT and pressure-test procedure, quantity, documentation, packaging, lifting, and destination.
