What This Checklist Does

Use this checklist before sending an inquiry for a custom copper or copper alloy component. It helps engineering and purchasing teams identify missing decisions that affect product identity, manufacturability, inspection, price, and schedule.

The checklist is a readiness review, not the RFQ form itself. Mark each item as attached, confirmed, not applicable, proposed by Winworth, or pending buyer approval. Use the separate RFQ Template to record the final values.

1. Identify the Component

  • Product name, buyer item number, Winworth Entity Key if known, equipment type, equipment tag, and installation position.
  • New component, repeat order, replacement, repair-related inquiry, prototype, or production batch.
  • Required function: cooling, melt containment, solidification, electrical contact, current transfer, wear support, sealing, structural interface, or another defined purpose.
  • Photographs showing the complete assembly, component orientation, mating parts, connections, wear or damage, and scale where relevant.

Similar names do not establish the same product. Crucible, mold, crystallizer, cooling jacket, contact shoe, pressure ring, bushing, sleeve, liner, and forging must be matched to their actual function and equipment interface.

2. Control Drawings and Dimensions

  • Latest drawing number, revision, approval status, units, and file type.
  • 2D drawing, 3D model, approved sample, measured sketch, equipment manual, or combination of sources.
  • Datums, critical dimensions, tolerances, geometric controls, fits, surface finish, holes, channels, connections, sealing or contact faces, and assembly orientation.
  • List of fixed dimensions, dimensions open to proposal, and person authorized to approve changes.

For replacement work, distinguish original design dimensions from measurements taken from a worn, deformed, repaired, or modified sample. State known field changes and provide mating-interface measurements.

3. Define Material and Condition

  • Exact material designation, governing material specification, product form, delivery condition, and required heat treatment.
  • Permitted alternatives and the approval process for any proposed substitution.
  • Required chemistry, conductivity, hardness, oxygen content, mechanical properties, metallography, or other material evidence.
  • Heat, batch, blank, component, and assembly traceability requirements.

Do not specify only copper, bronze, or a trade name. Material selection must be tied to the required function, approved specification, manufacturing route, and acceptance requirements.

4. Provide Relevant Service Inputs

  • Temperature range, heat exposure, thermal cycles, current and duty cycle, contact condition, cooling medium, water quality, flow and pressure inputs, wear, corrosion, erosion, load, motion, atmosphere, vacuum, or process media relevant to the component.
  • Adjacent materials, refractory, supports, piping, cables, fasteners, joints, and installation constraints.
  • Previous service history, failure mode, maintenance interval, and evidence from removed components when available.

These inputs support engineering review. They do not transfer complete equipment, process, electrical, cooling-system, pressure-system, or safety design responsibility to Winworth.

5. Confirm Manufacturing and Inspection Requirements

  • Required, preferred, prohibited, or open manufacturing routes.
  • Special processes, approved procedures, qualification requirements, hold points, and change-control rules.
  • Material verification, dimensional inspection, NDT, pressure or leak testing, electrical or mechanical tests, trial assembly, and surface checks.
  • Method, stage, examined area, sampling, procedure, acceptance criteria, report format, witness requirements, and final record package.

Do not list inspection abbreviations without defining what must be examined and accepted. Use the Inspection Requirement Checklist for detailed quality fields.

6. Define Quantity and Delivery

  • Quotation quantity, batch size, annual demand, forecast status, spare requirement, and repeat-order expectation.
  • Required delivery date, acceptable partial deliveries, destination, named delivery point, and requested commercial term.
  • Packaging, preservation, lifting, handling, storage duration, surface protection, connection protection, markings, and document language.
  • Buyer technical contact, commercial contact, document contact, and required response date.

Final Readiness Check

Before submission, verify that the RFQ has one controlled technical basis, clear open items, identified approvers, and no conflict between drawings, specifications, email instructions, and commercial documents. Winworth can review incomplete information, but quotation assumptions and exclusions must remain visible until the buyer resolves them.
