Define the Cooling Component Before Requesting a Quote
Use this checklist for a drawing-based copper cooling plate, water jacket, cooling panel, stave, wall element, burner-zone panel, or another confirmed furnace cooling component. Start with the equipment position and function rather than selecting a product only from a similar photograph.
An Ausmelt or other top-submerged-lance furnace jacket, a flash-smelting cooling element, a blast-furnace stave, and a fabricated water jacket can have different geometry, refractory interfaces, cooling arrangements, manufacture, and acceptance requirements. The RFQ must identify the actual equipment architecture.
1. Equipment and Component Identity
- Plant, furnace type, equipment model, furnace zone, equipment tag, buyer item number, and installed orientation.
- Component name used on the current equipment drawing, plus any alternative site or OEM name.
- New design, repeat order, replacement, repair-related inquiry, trial component, or production quantity.
- Component function and boundaries: local heat removal, refractory support, shell interface, burner or lance-zone cooling, stave duty, or another stated purpose.
- Complete installed photographs, adjacent components, refractory arrangement, mounting, pipe connections, access, lifting, and evidence of leakage, overheating, erosion, distortion, cracking, or previous repair.
2. Controlled Geometry and Interfaces
- Latest drawing number, revision, units, status, 2D files, 3D model, equipment layout, and approved reference documents.
- Overall envelope, datums, mounting faces, holes, fasteners, flanges, locating features, clearances, refractory-contact surfaces, shell interfaces, and installation direction.
- Critical dimensions, tolerances, geometric controls, surface finish, weld details, machining allowances, and areas that must not be changed.
- Dimensions measured from an existing component, the measurement method, measurement locations, observed variation, and the buyer's method for approving reconstructed dimensions.
Do not copy dimensions from one furnace zone or component family into another. A worn or repaired sample is evidence, not automatic design authority.
3. Cooling Circuit Definition
- Cooling passage layout, section, wall thickness, inlet and outlet locations, flow direction, circuit count, manifold or branch arrangement, and drain or vent features where applicable.
- Connection type, size, standard, sealing arrangement, mating pipe orientation, allowable installation envelope, and protected connection faces.
- Buyer-provided operating inputs such as cooling medium, water quality, normal and limit temperatures, flow, pressure, differential pressure, duty cycle, monitoring, and known upset conditions.
- Required cleanliness, internal surface condition, flushing, drying, preservation, and restrictions on trapped debris or process residue.
The component page does not redesign the plant cooling system. Pump selection, water treatment, monitoring, alarms, interlocks, pressure-system responsibility, and safe operating limits remain with the relevant equipment and plant authorities.
4. Material and Manufacturing Basis
- Exact copper or copper-alloy designation, governing material specification, product form, condition, heat treatment, and permitted alternatives.
- Monolithic, cast, forged, machined, drilled-channel, welded, fabricated, or combined construction required or open to proposal.
- Required joining procedure, filler material, qualification, heat input control, post-joining treatment, repair restrictions, and acceptance where applicable.
- Heat, batch, blank, component, weld, and assembly traceability; material evidence and manufacturing records required with delivery.
Material name alone does not establish thermal performance, strength, pressure integrity, corrosion suitability, or service life. These depend on the approved design, manufacture, inspection, installation, cooling conditions, furnace duty, and maintenance.
5. Inspection and Acceptance
- Dimensional inspection points, datums, measurement stage, method, sampling, report format, and acceptance criteria.
- Visual, PT, UT, RT, ET, pressure, flow, or leak test only where technically applicable and explicitly ordered.
- Test medium, cleanliness class, test pressure or vacuum, hold time, temperature, allowable leakage, drying, witness points, and safe test procedure.
- Material certificate, traceability record, weld record, NDT report, dimensional report, pressure or leak record, photographs, release note, and final document index.
Do not use a test acronym as a complete requirement. Define the object, area, stage, method, extent, procedure, acceptance criteria, responsibility, and record.
6. Quantity, Packaging, and Delivery
- Quotation quantity, batch quantity, annual or spare demand, repeat-order expectation, and required delivery date.
- Destination, named delivery point, requested commercial term and version, partial delivery rules, and document language.
- Mass, center of gravity, lifting points, lifting restrictions, handling orientation, protected machined and sealing surfaces, capped connections, preservation, storage duration, and export packing.
- Required quotation alternatives, open technical items, buyer approvers, assumptions, exclusions, and response date.
